    A steel ball of mass 1.35 kg is attached to a thin (massless) cable and whirled around in a circle in a vertical plane.The circle has a radius of 1.46 m. When it is at the bottom of the circle, the ball has a speed of 14.1 m/s. Calculate the magnitude of the tension in the cable when the mass is at the bottom of the circle.

    There are only two forces acting on the ball of steel; the tension and its weight. If you sketch a free body diagram you'll see that at the botton of the swirl, the tension is pointing up while the weight is pointing in the opposite direction. Consequently, Newton's second law is stated as follows:
